Wildbad Weltbad

The site-specific, performative work "Wildbad - Weltbad" in the spa town of Bad Gastein focuses on the thermal springs through the act of bathing, thus returning to the origin of the place. The repeated minimal intervention pleads for a village center which, against the total commodification of resources, offers space for residents, thus opening imagination for possibilities and therefore shifting the perception of space. It makes use of the traditions of spa culture and transports them with a few aids to strategically selected places in the village that are accessible to the general public. The performance was documented and transmitted into a video installation. The argument thus ranges from the personal appropriation of space and resources, through the appreciation of architectural and cultural heritage to a call to reclaim commodified touristic space.
